How to Use
- Click tiles to input your hand (or use text input)
- Click the "Analyze Tile Efficiency" button
- View your shanten count and accepting tiles
- With 14 tiles, see efficiency comparison for each discard
Terminology
- Shanten
- The minimum number of tile exchanges needed to reach tenpai. 0-shanten = tenpai, -1 = winning hand.
- Ukeire (Accepting Tiles)
- Tiles that reduce your shanten when drawn. More accepting tiles means better efficiency.
- Tile Efficiency
- The strategy of choosing discards to reach tenpai and win as quickly as possible. The basic principle is maximizing ukeire count.
Text Input Format
You can input your hand in the following format:
-
123m→ 1-2-3 of Characters (Man/Wan) -
456p→ 4-5-6 of Dots (Pin) -
789s→ 7-8-9 of Bamboo (Sou) -
1234z→ Wind tiles (East, South, West, North) -
567z→ Dragon tiles (White, Green, Red)
Example: 123m456p789s1112z
Tile Efficiency Basics
- Choose discards that maximize accepting tiles
- Ryanmen (two-sided) waits accept 8 tiles - most efficient
- Kanchan (middle) and Penchan (edge) waits accept 4 tiles
- Isolated tiles (floating tiles) should be discarded early
- Chiitoitsu and Kokushi have different efficiency calculations
